Pro Football Hall Of Fame Voting in Need of Revamp: Dent Denied Again

One of the greatest Bears defensive ends was denied enshrinement in Canton once again. This is his sixth time being a finalist to only be turned away by voters.
Dent was one of the greatest ends to ever play the game of football. He compiled an insane 137.5 sacks over his 15-year career with the Bears, Colts, 49ers, and Eagles. He had 671 tackles to go along with 37 forced fumbles. Canton worthy numbers if you ask me.
Even former teammates believe Dent should be in.
“I think he should have been in years ago, and I think some of the people they put in recently ahead of him are unjustified in my opinion,” Dent’s former teammate Jimbo Covert told ESPNChicago.com earlier this week.
“There’s a few people who will say things like he didn’t play the run or he was only a pass rusher, I don’t know, I played against him every day in practice and I think he did a hell of a job. The Hall of Fame is about people who have excelled and gone above and beyond, and he certainly has done that.”
His performance in the ’85 Super Bowl should have jolted him straight to the Hall. Dent had one and a half sacks in the game.
He was the 1985 Super Bowl MVP, selected to four pro bowls, and was named to one first team all-pro.
Pro-football-reference.com lists players who have had similar careers to him. Among the list are Howie Long and Dan Hampton. Both are currently enshrined in Canton.
Should he be enshrined? Absolutely. It is baffling to me as a sports fan as to why Richard Dent has not made the Hall yet.
