With news spreading that Julius Peppers is coming to Chicago to sign a contract with the Bears, it left me wondering why they had another scheduled visit with Chester Taylor after already signing Brandon Manumaleuna and Peppers visiting?

This isn’t the Chicago Bears we have all come to know and, maybe, love.

They are never front runners to sign the league’s biggest offseason free agent.

They are never the team that has multiple free agents coming in to visit in hopes of signing, dare I say, all of them.

So I pose the question: Is Chester Taylor part of the free agency backup plan if they fail to sign Julius Peppers? Or are they going for it all in hopes of hitting the proverbial free agency home run?

Would they go ahead and re-sign Adewale Ogunleye and then go after Taylor to back up Matt Forte? The Bears showcased a need for a backup after the disaster that was last season’s running game.

My feelings are that the Bears are actually trying to sign all three men and then still target other free agents, such as Antrell Rolle.

I am completely giddy at the thought of this as a Chicago Bears fan—and even as a blogger. How much fun would it be to write about a Bears team with Jay Cutler, Matt Forte, Chester Taylor, Julius Peppers and Antrel Rolle on the roster?

Think of the number of articles I could bang out with a lineup like that.

All that I’m waiting to hear now is that the Bears are going after a big-name wide receiver as well. Come on Bears, give up the draft picks for Brandon Marshall. If you are going to sign talent like Peppers, Taylor (a talented backup for his age) and Rolle (possibly), you will be fine to give up a first and third round pick for a talent like Marshall.

Besides, even if you gave up a first and third rounder next season, you would still be in a better position in the draft than you are this year. You didn’t catch nearly as much talent for those moves as you would with the moves you are talking about making now.

So I implore Bears management to spend the necessary money to bring all these players to Chicago. Give up the draft picks to get big talent. If Antonio Cromartie can be sent away for a third round pick, that means you could easily trade away some “talent” to get back a third round pick and possibly an extra second round pick next year.

Today is almost as big as the NFL draft. So I am definitely glued to my seat, awaiting any news, whether it be good or bad.

But I’m hoping for the news that the Bears hit 1.000 with one HR and four RBI for the offseason.
