Sure, maybe I am jumping ahead of myself in my thinking, and I pray that I don’t jinx the Bears, but I bet that this is a thought that has run across the mind of almost everyone reading this.
Just how great would it be if the Bears and the Packers met in the NFC Championship Game at Soldier Field?
Granted, there is some work to do yet. The Bears have to play and beat the Seattle Seahawks while the Packers have to travel to Atlanta and beat the Falcons, but both of these teams can win. Winning would bring them together for what could be the game of the century.
The Bears and Packers series is one of the most hotly contested in professional football, and there is hardly a football fan out there that doesn’t know about this rivalry. It has been going on for so long that it draws older fans into it, and has enough fire to keep those younger fans reeled in. Everyone knows how much these two teams hate each other, and when these two teams get together, they draw a lot of viewers.
Imagine how many people would watch a game featuring the Bears and the Packers in a fight for a trip to the Super Bowl? It could be one of the biggest television attractions ever.
The Bears have a huge following all across the country (and even all over the world), and they would bring a lot of fans to the table. The Packers have enough appeal that they could easily bring some additional fans and viewers to the game.
Having two division foes fighting it out for a shot to go to the Super Bowl is sure to draw a lot of attention. A rivalry game with this much riding on it between two storied franchises does not happen that often. It can be (and would be) the greatest game that these two teams would have played in the long running series to date.
The two teams split their series in the regular season, with the Bears winning the first game on Monday Night Football in Week 3, 20-17, while the Packers won the last game in Week 17, 10-3. These teams know each other very well, and in a third meeting in the NFC Championship Game, anything could happen.
Playing each other in the championship game would make it one of the hardest fought battles in the history of NFL playoffs and maybe in the history of the NFL. It would be anyone’s game, with the winner difficult to predict, and it would definitely be a can’t-miss contest.
It’s not out of the question to think that these two teams won’t be able to meet in the NFC Championship Game. The Bears can beat the Seahawks despite the fact that they lost to Seattle earlier in the year. This is a different Bears team now, and they are a lot better than they were when they hosted the Seahawks way back toward the beginning of the season.
The Packers’ loss to the Falcons was a close one, and had it not been for a couple of twists, the Packers would have won that game. Will they have better luck this time around against the best team in the NFC? We will find out on Saturday, but with the way the Packers have been playing lately, it’s easy to think that Green Bay could beat Atlanta.
Bears fans and Packers fans alike would surely welcome the matchup. The winner would have bragging rights for a long time, and even better, it would have a shot at winning the Super Bowl and being the NFL’s champion.
Would you be excited about watching a Bears vs Packers NFC Championship?
