Exclusive Interview with Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Kris Adams

Wide Receiver Kris Adams went undrafted out of UTEP but signed with the Bears almost immediately after the NFL lockout was declared over.

In four years at UTEP, Adams reeled in 144 receptions for 2657 yards and 30 touchdowns. He caught 14 touchdowns during his senior and sophomore campaigns.

Adams most impressive game last season came in a loss against Brigham Young when he caught three passes for 153 and three touchdowns.

Adams stands at 6’3″, 195 lbs. and the Bears really like what he can bring to the receiving corps.

The only problem is he will have to make his way onto the team by being a contributor on special teams.

With Johnny Knox, Earl Bennett, Devin Hester, Roy Williams and Sam Hurd all locks to make the team, Adams will have to show why he belongs during this training camp.

Former CFL star Andy Fantuz and Ohio State star Dane Sanzenbacher are his likely competitors.

I had the chance to catch up with Kris during this hectic training camp and I asked him about which veteran receivers have started to mentor him, his biggest strength and his most memorable moment in football.

Here’s the interview with Bears WR Kris Adams. Exclusively on Bearsbacker.com:

Q: Was it always your dream to play in the NFL?

A: I didn’t realize I had chance to play football past high school until I got my first college letter. But it was always in the back of my mind.

Q: Have any of the Bears veterans started to mentor you on the field?
A: Earl Bennett is a big help, but most surprising is that Sam Hurd and Roy Williams give you advice every chance they get; it’s great.

Q: What kind of drills do the wide receivers get put through?

A: We mainly work on route technique and releases.

Q: What has wide receiver coach Darryl Drake taught you in the short time that you’ve been here?

A: Coach Drake really stresses the importance of being physical and using your hands.

Q: With all of the veteran receivers in front of you on the depth chart, how much harder does that make you want to work?

A: It forces you to work extra hard even when you think they aren’t because of the lockout as a free agent it’s very little time to get up too speed so you want ever advantage you can get.

Q: In your short time with the Bears, which players have you become the closest with?

A: You would think when you are competing with guy u wouldn’t be as close, but the other receivers who came in with me really help each other a lot so I would say them.

Q: What do you feel is your biggest strength?

A: I still like to think it can be a combination of my height and speed. When people see a tall guy like me that might think I’m slower then I am.

Q: What do you feel is your biggest weakness?

A: My height is also one of my weaknesses because I have found out that sometimes I play to high up.

Q: Who is the person who helped you get to this point?

A: My parents without a doubt.

Q: What is your most memorable moment in football? What level did it occur in?

A: My sophomore year in college I scored the game winning touchdown in double overtime vs Southern Mississippi.

Q: What’s a fact that maybe some people don’t know about you?

A: My son was born during football camp in 2008 and I was spending the night at the hospital for the first few days of camp running back and forth from meetings and practice to the hospital.

Q: Favorite movie?

A: “The Negotiator” it’s pretty old.

Q: Favorite food/meal?

A: Ox tails.

Q: What would you like to be known as by fans?

A: Ace.

Q: What is the biggest difference between college and the pros?

A: The amount of detail that goes into every little thing.

Q: What do you have to say to the 31 other teams that passed on you?

A: Lol. I don’t have anything to say. I haven’t accomplished anything so as of right now they were right to pass on me. Ask me again if I’m still playing next year but right now I can’t blame them they did what they thought to be best.

Q: What are you most excited about for the coming season?

A: Right now I’m just excited that I’m still a Bear I really love the way this organization is put together and the way the fans support their team.
