Why Chicago Bears Need to Add Donovan McNabb as Jay Cutler Substitute

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Minnesota Vikings will release quarterback Donovan McNabb today.
What more could you want, Chicago Bears fans?
Based on their current situation, this is a perfect match for a solid, playoff team that lost starting quarterback Jay Cutler two weeks ago.
Culter told the Chicago Sun-Times the following about the status of his thumb…
I want to play next weekend if they’d let me, but I don’t think that’s going to be in the cards It could be that I’m done for the season. I don’t know. I just have to be smart about it. I have to realize there is a long-term picture here.
Although they hold the 24th waiver claim, the Bears need to make a play at McNabb, for many reasons.
He’s bounced around the last few years and showed early this season he’s not the precision pocket passer he once was.
McNabb isn’t a huge upgrade, but aren’t the knocks on Cutler that he’s occasionally sporadic with his accuracy and makes ill-advised decisions from time to time?
McNabb still possesses the arm strength to drive the ball down the field to the likes of Devin Hester and Johnny Knox, which would allow Mike Martz to stick with his system that features a variety of long-developing routes.
That’s an area in which McNabb can still contribute.
Even if he can’t consistently complete passes, there’s always Matt Forte.
Playing in his hometown of Chicago is an underrated factor.
Not only will he be content in the Windy City, but the people of Chicago will have a much easier time embracing him down the stretch.
Nothing against Caleb Hanie, but does anyone else think he’s a hindrance to the Bears offense?
Also, if Cutler isn’t ready to go for the postseason, wouldn’t you want a signal caller with McNabb’s playoff experience?
He is essentially an older version of the gun-slinging Cutler.
I’d be surprised if the Bears don’t at least make a waiver claim on the veteran McNabb.
