Why Lance Briggs, Bears Should Be ‘Frickin’ Pissed’ If They Lose to Tim Tebow

The Chicago Bears allowed Tyler Palko to beat them at home, and if they lose to Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos on the road this weekend, linebacker Lance Briggs will not be happy.

When asked if he would be embarrassed to lose to Tebow in Denver he said, “No, I will be frickin’ pissed.”

He continued, “(Tebow) is one heck of a football player and we’re going to have to stop that crap.”

The six-time Pro Bowler also stated that Cam Newton was a better athlete and faster than Tebow. Really, there isn’t much groundbreaking in those comments, and they certainly don’t constitute bulletin board material.

The Bears should be angry if they let Tebow and Denver’s gimmicky offense beat them. Chicago’s defense has not played up to expectations this season, but it is still a formidable unit. The Bears currently rank 20th in the league, allowing 359.3 yards per game. That said Chicago is only allowing 99.8 yards per game, which ranks eighth in the league.

Briggs, Brian Urlacher and Nick Roach will have the responsibility of shutting down Tebow and Denver’s top-ranked rushing attack (averaging 158.9 yards per game). Those three linebackers in addition to Chicago’s defensive line will have to at least slow down the Broncos’ running game if the team wants to win on the road.

With Jay Cutler and Matt Forte out for an extended period of time, Chicago’s offense should continue to be woeful. That means the defense will have to win games for the team. That responsibility will fall directly on Briggs, Urlacher and the rest of the team’s front seven.
