Sam Hurd: Twitter Explodes with Reaction to NFL Player’s Drug Bust

Chicago Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd was arrested on December 14th on federal drug charges, according to Jason Trahan of The Dallas Morning News.
The former Cowboys receiver is accused of playing a part in a huge drug ring and even though he’s not exactly an NFL superstar, Hurd has the potential to make a huge impact on the league.
The 26-year-old wide receiver has sent shock waves through the sports world with the staggering amount of drugs he attempted to purchase.
Naturally, Twitter has exploded upon hearing the news. Here are some of the most memorable tweets of the day.

ProFootballTalk.com’s Gregg Rosenthal suggests that as wild as it may seem, being an NFL player may not have been the most lucrative endeavor Hurd was involved with.

Bob Fescoe of 610sports.com suggests that even Lawrence Taylor finds Hurd to be crazy.

Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News says Hurd’s sister is asking fans to wait for facts after Hurd’s drug arrest. Unfortunately, the more we find out about this scandal, the more mountainous it seems.

ESPN Dallas’ Tim MacMahon points out just how unlikely it is that Hurd of all people is at the center of this scandal. If asked to name 100 NFL players who may be at the heart of a massive drug ring, it’s hard to imagine anyone would have said Hurd.

The Big Lead’s Jason McIntyre points out how nervous NFL players who may have a part in this drug scandal have to be feeling a bit uneasy. If this scandal is as big as early reports are indicating, there are plenty of players who have to be on edge right now.
Initial Updates
Laurence W. Holmes, host of Chicago Sportsradio WSCR 670 the Score, provides he jaw-dropping amount of cocaine Hurd was attempting to buy when he was busted.
Holmes also indicates that law enforcement sources suggest that Hurd is the “tip of the iceberg.”
The past few months have been jam-packed with scandal. Is this the start of a scandal that will rock the NFL and give Roger Goodell bigger problems than Ndamukong Suh, James Harrison and quarterback safety?
Matt Spiegel, co-host of the McNiel & Spiegel show, says that 670 The Score says there is a list of NFL players who scored their drugs from Hurd. The list is said to be in the double digits.
Eagles guard Evan Mathis provides some comic relief on the situation. He contends that Hurd’s fate may be a result of the wide receiver not watching the end of movies featuring drug schemes gone wrong.
CBS’ Gregg Doyle pokes fun a the Bears saying they “are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise.” While it’s safe to assume that potentially the biggest narcotics scandal in NFL history isn’t a weekly occurrence, it’s comical that the Bears’ quote makes it seem as though this is an issue they encounter consistently.
SI’s Peter King wins the award for lamest play on words of the day. I wonder what letter it could be?
