The Bears added some experience to the offensive line today with the signing of Chilo Rachal.

Rachal was inked to a one-year deal today by Chicago. The NFL Network first reported the signing.

The former second-round pick out of USC has started 38 games at guard in San Francisco since being drafted in 2008.

He started six games in his rookie season in 2008, 15 games in 2009, 14 in 2010 and three in 2011.

He was beaten out for the right guard position by veteran Adam Snyder this past season.

The 26-year-old Rachal gives the Bears five solid guards. Chris Williams, Chris Spencer, Lance Louis and Edwin Williams are all under contract for the upcoming season.

Chris Williams and Lance Louis can play the tackle position as well if needed. With J’Marcus Webb and Gabe Carimi locked in as of now as the projected starters, C. Williams and Louis will be used as competition throughout training camp.

Don’t be surprised to see the Bears add a tackle via the draft or free agency sometime soon.

As of now, the Bears have eight linemen including center Roberto Garza. They tend to keep eight or nine linemen, so we’ll see how they view the unit in the near future.

Rachal is definitely an asset for QB Jay Cutler. GM Phil Emery made the offensive line stronger Wednesday with the addition of Rachal.
