Giants vs. Bears: New York Will Remain Winless on ‘Thursday Night Football’

Thursday night’s matchup between the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants looked like a much more intriguing game when the schedule was first released. The Bears currently sit at 3-2 while the Giants have yet to win a game at 0-5. Coming off a short week, the Bears will use their defensive prowess and offensive firepower to make short work of the struggling Giants.
The Bears are coming off a tough 26-18 loss against the undefeated New Orleans Saints in a game in which the offense struggled, with the exception of second-year wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery put up 218 yards on 10 catches and one touchdown and has solidified himself as a legitimate No. 2 wide out.
The Giants continue to disappoint and last week lost to NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles 36-21. Quarterback Eli Manning has already thrown 12 interceptions this season and their defense can’t stop a nosebleed, giving up nearly 400 yards a game.
QB Jay Cutler has been impressive so far this season and has bought into first-year head coach Marc Trestman’s system. Cutler is completing 65 percent of his passes and has thrown six touchdowns in the first five weeks. Cutler will have a big night Thursday throwing for 320 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
However, the biggest reason for the early success for the Bears is the play of the offensive line. On the right side of the line, the Bears are starting two rookies in first-round pick Kyle Long and fifth-round pick Jordan Mills. Both have played exceptionally well, and that success will continue Thursday against a very poor Giants front seven.
The Bears will look to utilize home-field advantage tonight and take a half-game lead over the Detroit Lions for first place in the NFC North. The offense will prove to be too much for the Giants and expect both Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery to each have over 100 yard receiving.
For the Giants, Eli Manning must take care of the ball and limit the turnovers if New York wants to pull the upset, but I don’t see that happening. The Giants will win a game this season, but this is not the game.
