Martellus Bennett may be the primary tight end for the Chicago Bears, but Zach Miller was the one turning fantasy players’ heads in the team’s preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Miller got the scoring started early when he hauled in a touchdown pass from Jay Cutler in the first quarter. When quarterback Jordan Palmer came in during the second quarter, Miller found the end zone yet again. 

NFL on ESPN was there to capture both scores, while Kevin Fishbain of ChicagoFootball.com had some fun with the situation:

While it is important not to overreact to a preseason game, it is worth mentioning that Bennett was recently suspended by the team for a scuffle in practice. If Miller can continue to impress during these opportunities, he may find the field during the regular season for a potent Bears offense.

That could mean he is worth a late-round flyer for fantasy players.

Remember, Chicago is loaded with weapons all across the field. With Brandon Marshall, Matt Forte and Alshon Jeffery consuming much of the defensive attention, Miller could find a way to slip through the cracks and tally some touchdowns in the red zone.

If Miller’s comments are any indication, he understands how to get open because of his quarterback days at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, via Fishbain:

From the football side of it and the mental aspect of it, I see coverages a lot better. I feel super comfortable seeing rotation and things like that and fronts. I can I.D. defenses, which helps me running routes, or our combination blocks, and things like that. Having a quarterback background helps me on the mental aspect of football.

He will have to use that knowledge to make the team in the preseason before becoming a factor for fantasy players, though. He did his part Friday with six catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
