Matt Forte’s Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 2

Matt Forte is usually one of the most reliable fantasy football options in the entire NFL, although he didn’t really play the part in the Chicago Bears’ showdown with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.

Here is a look at his final stats:

Forte only tallied 21 rushing yards on 12 carries and truly struggled to get any traction against a typically stout San Francisco defense. Unfortunately for Forte and the Chicago rushing attack, two starting offensive linemen missed Sunday’s contest, which clearly hurt Forte’s chances at finding holes.

Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune noted that Forte really struggled to get it going:

Just because Forte had a game Sunday against the stingy 49ers doesn’t mean fantasy owners should be discouraged moving forward for the rest of the season. Forte finished the 2013 campaign with 1,339 rushing yards, 594 receiving yards and 12 total touchdowns and was an absolute superstar for the entire year.

In fact, Forte has never run for fewer than 929 yards in a single season since his career began in Chicago in 2008. He has also played in at least 15 games in five of the last six seasons, which makes him one of the more durable running backs in the league.

Forte is also a top-notch running back option in fantasy football because of the rest of the weapons in the Chicago Bears offense.

Quarterback Jay Cutler has Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett as options in the passing game, which means it is difficult for opposing defenses to focus in on stopping just Forte. If they stack the box, it will open up the receivers over the top for deep passes.

Look for Forte to bounce back quickly from his less-than-stellar fantasy performance.
