Even at less than 100 percent, Brandon Marshall is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. The same goes for fantasy football.
Here is a look at Marshall’s impressive final tallies from Sunday’s contest, as well as tight end Martellus Bennett‘s performance:
The Chicago Bears star wide receiver was questionable at best to play in his team’s Sunday night showdown against the San Francisco 49ers with an ankle injury, but he made the most of his opportunity on the field. In fact, he hauled in an incredible one-handed touchdown catch in the first half, as the NFL on ESPN pointed out:
Marshall then added to his total and certainly made fantasy football owners happy when he hauled in a second touchdown in the fourth quarter. Finally, he hauled in a third for good measure and was an absolute fantasy superstar in Week 2.
It should come as no surprise since Marshall has tallied more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last seven seasons heading into the 2014 campaign and is as safe of a fantasy play as you can find when healthy.
He played with Jay Cutler in Denver before the two reunited in Chicago as well, so there is an obvious chemistry there.
Bennett also got in on some of the fantasy football action Sunday. He actually led the Bears with 29 receiving yards in the first half and was targeted six times.
Then he made his fantasy week with a touchdown catch of his own in the fourth quarter.
With Marshall and Alshon Jeffery nursing injuries heading into the contest with the 49ers, it would make sense if Bennett got more involved in the passing game. If those injuries linger at all as the season progresses, it could open Bennett up for more opportunities from Cutler.
In fact, there are so many weapons on paper in this Chicago offense with Jeffery, Marshall, Cutler, Bennett and Matt Forte, that it is difficult for opposing defenses to focus in on just one option. That should theoretically open the field for some of these guys, including Marshall and Bennett, for the rest of the season.
If nothing else, that should be music to the ears of fantasy football owners who have the wide receiver or tight end on their teams.
