Derrick Brooks may be called out of retirement quickly.

Chicago, after losing Brian Urlacher for the season, may pick up the phone as early as today.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Bears have already contacted Brooks and he could land there as early as today or Tuesday.

It would make sense. Chicago head coach Lovie Smith coached Brooks as linebackers coach for Tampa Bay and Chicago defensive line coach Rod Marinelli is a big fan of Brooks.

That puts the double-nickel back in play.

It’s logical and would help the Bears fill the gaping hole left by Urlacher’s season-ending wrist dislocation.
