After being claimed off of waivers Sunday, Gilbert was picked up by the New York Jets. Gilbert was drafted in the third round of the 2009 draft, showed a lot of athleticism on a famous viral video of himself jumping out of a pool. Rex Ryan was said to be heavily involved in the recruiting efforts for Gilbert. Gilbert will be assigned to the Jets’ practice squad. It will be a boost for the Jets’ depth on the defensive line.

To go along with acquiring Gilbert, the Jets have finally agreed to deal with Darrelle Revis, after being in a stalemate for the past seven months. This will be an improvement for the Jets’ already number one defense, after losing leading tackler Calvin Pace for six to eight weeks.

In other Bears’ news, wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias has resigned with the Bears’ practice squad. Also assigned to the practice squad are wide receiver Greg Matthews, fullback Eddie Williams, tackle Levi Horn, tackle James Marten, center/guard Edwin Williams, defensive end Barry Turner, and linebacker J.D. Folsom. Captains are Jay Cutler, Olin Kreutz, Brian Urlacher, Julius Peppers, and Patrick Mannelly. The six captains this year have been to a combined eighteen pro-bowls.

The Jets will play the Ravens on Monday, September 13, with a rematch of Rex Ryan’s former team. The Bears will play the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
