2009 Stats: Minnesota Vikings Bernard Berrian vs. Chicago Bears Devin Hester

Last year I stacked these two playmakers up, and Bernard Berrian’s stats were much better, but it seems like Devin Hester has really improved.
Lets take a look.

48th in receptions (55)
61st in receiving yards (618 yards)
122nd in longest reception (40 yards)
Tied for 53rd in receiving touchdowns (four)
Third highest cap value for a receiver
Fourth highest total salary WR
42nd in receptions (57)
46th in receiving yards (757 yards)
91st in longest reception (48 yards)
Tied for 69th in receiving touchdowns (three)
70th highest cap value for a receiver
20th highest total salary WR
You have to remember that the Minnesota Vikings saw Sidney Rice have a huge year, rookie Percy Harvin was very good, and TE Visanthe Shiancoe was a big part of the offense. So, Berrian’s role on the offense was really diminished.
Devin Hester was in the top of the NFL in many of the wide receiver categories, trailing only Larry Fitzgerald until he suffered an injury and was forced to miss a good amount of games.
Hester should be a starter this season, but he might not be the No. 1 receiver considering the emergence of Devin Aromashodu and Johnny Knox. Don’t forget about Earl Bennett, Juaquin Iglesias, and the tight end tandem of Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark.
If Devin Hester wants to separate from ex-Bear Bernard Berrian once and for all, he has to add to his touchdown total because he failed to get into the endzone on a consistent basis last season.
Devin Hester is developing into a very good receiver, and with Jay Cutler throwing him the ball, he could be one of the best. Bernard Berrian has to prove his worth with Minnesota this season or he might find himself without a job at the end of the year.
I would much rather have Devin Hester on my team, as he can break one for a touchdown at anytime.
