2012 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears Trade Up to Pick No. 45 to Select Alshon Jeffery

The Chicago Bears have drafted Alshon Jeffery with the 45th pick of the NFL draft after trading up with the St. Louis Rams.
The Bears gave up the 50th and 150th overall picks in order to solidify a position for the Bears that has been a question mark in past years.
Prior to the combine, Jeffery was widely considered one of the top receiver prospects in the draft and, paired with Brandon Marshall, should create a threatening receiving corps.
This is a pick that should excite Bears fans, knowing GM Phil Emery moved to secure a player the Bears coveted.
Though Jeffery’s production declined his senior year, he had to endure inconsistency at the quarterback position.
To go along with his staggering size, Jeffery ran 40-yard dash times at his South Carolina pro day that were clocked in the high 4.4’s to the low 4.5’s, which should give him the speed necessary to get open at the pro level.
This is an excellent move by the Chicago Bears, and though there were other quality players available in Vinny Curry, Rueben Randle and Nick Toon, the Bears were wise to jump up the five spots necessary to secure Jeffery’s services.
