Baltimore Ravens’ Eric DeCosta Not Going Anywhere

Despite being rumored to be at least interested in the GM job with the Bears, Eric DeCosta will be staying in Baltimore. Ravens‘ general manager Ozzie Newman announced:

Since this franchise started in 1996, we’ve established a strong history of retaining our most important executives, players, coaches and personnel experts. Eric, who has had opportunities to interview with other teams recently and over the years, is another one we want to keep and will keep. He has chosen to stay with the Ravens, and we’re excited that he will. He is a most valuable asset and will continue to help us win championships.

The news will come as a disappointment to some fans not only in Chicago, but also in St. Louis and Indianapolis, who were rumored to be pursuing DeCosta as well.  This comes on the heels of reports that another top GM candidate, Reggie McKenzie, will be joining the Raiders as GM for the team he played for as a linebacker in the 1980s.  McKenzie had worked in the front office for the Green Bay Packers with Ron Wolf, who was hired as a consultant by the Raiders in the search.

In related news, Mike Tice, the offensive line coach for the Bears, got the expected nod for their open offensive coordinator position.  Cue the usual media hand-wringing about how this will make the search for their GM even harder.
