Bears Coach Lovie Smith Says “Pass The Peppers” and Signs Him to a Six-Year Deal

As it’s being reported by the Chicago Sun-Times DE Julius Peppers is on the verge of being officially taken off the market.

The deal between the Bears and Peppers is “imminent” according to the Sun-Times and will range for six years.  Other financial terms of the deal are undisclosed as of yet, but I will update as they become available.

The Bears have continued to be agressive in free agenc, and the signing of Peppers will mean they’ve successfully landed all three free agents they targettted this off—season.

It was reported earlier that TE Brandon Manumaleuna has been signed to a five—year deal that plants him firmly as the starting TE in Martz’s offensive scheme.

The Bears have also reportedly inked a deal with RB Chester Taylor that will bring Taylor to Chicago for four years at a total cost of $12.5 million ($7 million of that guaranteed).

With those deals in mind, you just have to love the free agent season, where every analyst gets all excited about normal everyday players, like Taylor and Manumaleuna. I mean don’t get me wrong, they both are solid players.

But, in my opinion they’re not the impact players at all. I’ve heard people excited about these moves, saying the Bears had to show that they meant business. However, I just don’t think signing an overrated pass—rusher and two average players does that, does it?

That being said, Taylor and Manumaleuna are perfect fits in the Chicago offensive system and I think these two signings will work out very well for the Bears. Their impact may even save head coach, Lovie Smith’s job.  (I know, I sounded like I contradicted myself, but it’s just funny watching all the excitement about guys like Manumaluena, Taylor, Vanden Bosch and Burleson.)
