Bears Primary Need Remains Offensive Line & More NFC North News

While Kevin Seifert is vacationing, sleeping in or whatever it is ESPN bloggers do on their days off, ESPN’s NFC North blog has a piece on the offseason needs of each of the division’s four teams. For the most part, they seem to hit all the ones you’d expect.
While you can argue that any of the teams need more than the ESPN writers point out, they’re looking for the biggest team needs and doing a short list.
So you get one area each.
The Lions need help in the secondary, the Packers could use offensive line help, the Vikings are desperate for a wide receiver and the Bears naturally need wide receiver and tight end help.
Wait, what?
Since when did the Bears’ primary need become receiving talent? I agree they need more receivers and they definitely need a more athletic tight end.
However, I still contend that the offensive line is a higher priority than wide receiver. Heck, you can argue inside linebacker is a higher priority than wide receiver.
In fairness, as you break down the Bears’ (and let’s be honest, the Packers’) needs it can be tiring to write the same thing over and over again.
But there’s no way I can say anything but offensive line is the top priority.
There may not be value at their pick in the draft. It might not be possible to address it fully via free agency.
But that doesn’t make it less than the top need for this offensive unit.

Sun-Times writer Adam Jahns says Manti Te’o could be the guy to replace Brian Urlacher for the Bears.
ESPN Chicago writer Michael Wright talks about the focus on the offensive line going into the combine.
Brad Biggs of the National Football Post reports that veteran receiver Nate Burleson seems to have been encouraging Jahvid Best to retire.
Anwar Richardson reports at MLive.com on 15 players the Lions should look at during the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine.
Along with playoff appearances and Super Bowls, Packer fans also get raised ticket prices, according to the Journal-Sentinel’s Tom Silverstein.
The Press-Gazette’s Weston Hodkiewicz reports that James Jones is ready to take the mantle of No. 1 receiver now that Greg Jennings is likely gone.
The Star-Tribune’s Dan Wiederer talks about the free agents on the offensive side of the ball.
The Pioneer-Press’ Brian Murphy reports that Percy Harvin is remaining mum on the trade rumors surrounding him.
