The Philadelphia Eagles had their way with the Chicago Bears, who blew a golden opportunity to clinch the NFC North. Chicago gave up 289 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns in Sunday night’s rout.

Final Analysis for the Chicago Bears

Passing Offense: Jay Cutler was sacked five times in the game. At no point was he able to generate anything downfield in large part due to a poor job of picking up the blitz by Matt Forte and the offensive line. 

Passing Defense: Only four of Nick Foles‘ passing attempts were incomplete. He was in control from the first snap. The Bears pass rush was poor, but not nearly as bad as the secondary, who let the Eagles receivers do whatever they want in the middle of the field.

Rushing Offense: Matt Forte only saw nine rushes, which is no fault of his own. The run was abandoned way too early. 

Rushing Defense: The Eagles torched the Bears for nearly 300 yards on the ground. They had two separate players rush for over 100 yards and had four rushing touchdowns. The Bears are just awful when it comes to stopping the run. 

Special Teams: After the two early mistakes on special teams, the third phase upgraded their performance from bad to mediocre. 

Coaching: Marc Trestman’s team came out as flat as can be. Mel Tucker’s defense looked putrid, Aaron Kromer had no clue on how to slow down the blitz and Joe DeCamillis’ special teams were far from special. This is the worst coaching performance from the Bears in a very long time. The entire staff failed miserably. 

First-Half Analysis for the Chicago Bears

Passing Offense: The Bears have struggled to protect Cutler, and he’s only completed half of his passes. Matt Forte has to do a better job of picking up the blitz. 

Passing Defense: Nick Foles has been able to scramble in the pocket and find his receivers in a very soft secondary. A lack of a pass rush and poor man coverage have the Bears in a big hole.  

Rushing Offense: The running game was abandoned early with the large deficit. Matt Forte only has four carries for eight yards. 

Rushing Defense: It’s no surprise the league’s worst run defense is struggling to stop the most potent running game in the NFL. The Bears have done a poor job of tackling the ball-carrier. 

Special Teams: Adam Podlesh’s shank and Devin Hester’s fumble were the two biggest contributions to the early hole. It was a terrible half for this unit that even saw Devin Hester hand the ball off on a return to a slow third-string running back. 

Coaching: The Bears had a golden chance to seize the division, and they came out and laid an egg in the first 30 minutes. This falls squarely at the feet of the coaching staff.
