Josh McCown and Matt Forte did all they could, but it was just too much Robert Griffin III and Roy Helu Jr. down the stretch as the Chicago Bears drop their third game of the year right before the bye.

Final Analysis for the Chicago Bears

Passing Offense:  What an outstanding effort by Josh McCown in relief of Jay Cutler. He kept his team in the game and wasn’t afraid to step up in the pocket and deliver strikes. 

Passing Defense: Awful job by the defense to allow Jordan Reed to have a career game and Aldrick Robinson to get the long touchdown. Chris Conte had about as bad a game as you can have in the secondary and the line got little to no pressure again on the quarterback. 

Rushing Offense: In a tale of two halves, you saw Matt Forte more than make amends in the second half for an ineffective first. Great job by Forte and the line to keep the Bears in the game on the ground. 

Rushing Defense: RGIII, Roy Helu and Alfred Morris killed the Bears on the ground. Morris churned out a tough 95 yards, RGIII did an outstanding job running the read option and all Helu did was get three touchdowns. 

Special Teams: Great effort all around in the game by a unit that was struggling in weeks past. It was nice to see Devin Hester get back on track. The onside kick could have been a game-changer. 

Coaching: Poor coaching on defense overshadows the job Marc Trestman did with Josh McCown and the play-calling. He’s still the head coach and that falls just as much on him as it does on Mel Tucker Jr.  

First-Half Analysis for the Chicago Bears

Passing Offense:  Whether it’s with Jay Cutler or Josh McCown, the Bears are getting nothing done in the air. DeAngelo Hall had his hands on a couple of passes, and a drop/deflection from Alshon Jeffery led to a costly pick-six.  

Passing Defense: Jordan Reed is proving to be a thorn in the side of the Bears. He has six targets that have resulted in six catches for nearly 100 yards and a touchdown. Poor recognition by the defense, especially on the late touchdown. 

Rushing Offense: The Bears should be able to run against this team. They have done absolutely nothing on the ground, however. Poor schemes and run blocking have given Matt Forte no lane to run through. 

Rushing Defense: The defensive line has done a nice job of slowing down Alfred Morris. Corey Wootton is having a good game inside. However, the linebackers are doing a poor job of figuring out the read option and it has resulted in over 50 yards on the ground for RGIII. 

Special Teams: Outstanding effort all around for the unit. Devin Hester has a great return, Adam Podlesh’s punt resulted in field position the Bears turned into points and Robbie Gould is perfect on his only try. 

Coaching: What did the Bears do with the extra time off? The offense even before Cutler got hurt was shaky and the defense is acting like they never saw the read option on tape.
