Chicago Bears 2011 Preseason Schedule: Previewing the Remaining Games

The Chicago Bears kicked off their preseason slate this past Saturday night when they faced the Buffalo Bills at home. Chicago walked away from that game with a 10-3 win, but they still have a long ways to go—especially on offense.
We can expect the Bears to improve as they move through the rest of their preseason schedule, but what’s in store for them for the rest of the preseason?
Let’s find out as we take a look at the remainder of the Bear’s preseason schedule.
Monday, August 22 at New York Giants
The Bears and their fans hope that this trip to New York doesn’t end up with the same result as their trip last year during the regular season. Remember when the Bears went to New York last year? No one wants to see that repeated.
Chicago’s offensive line is still a work in progress and the Bears won’t play quarterback Jay Cutler behind that offensive line for that long in this game. It will be imperative that the Bears continue to work on the continuity of their offensive line against the Giants and you may see those starters on the line play through the entire first half in order to get that continuity going.
Don’t expect the Bears to play their other starters for too long in this game, although they will play them a little bit longer than they did in their last game. Expect to see a lot more of those free agent defenders, especially Vernon Gholston and Amobi Okoye, in this game.
August 27 at Tennessee Titans
The Bears will play their third preseason game against the Titans in Tennessee and this is typically the game where the starters play at least one half (and possibly more). Expect to see the Bears put their starters in for a while to get them ready for the start of the 2011 season. It will be important to see just how far along the offense has come at this point, in particular the passing game, as well as how well the protection for the quarterback has developed.
This game will also be important because the Bears are going to have to start making roster cuts soon after it is over so for some of those “fringe” players it’s going to be vital that they perform well and get the coaches attention.
September 1 vs Cleveland
The final preseason game of the year will put Cleveland in Chicago to face the Bears. These games tend to be “Super Bowls” for those players that are either on the fringe of being cut or have the interest of other teams. The Bears may play their starters just a little bit, perhaps just for just one series but after that it’s all up to the backups to make themselves look good and give themselves a shot at making the team.
It will be interesting to watch those players play and there might be a few guys that stand out in this game that you will see on Sundays in the future.
