Chicago Bears 2011 Schedule: Here’s to a 3-Week Lockout

If the Chicago Bears play an entire season, it will go thusly:

Week 1 Atlanta
Week 2 @ New Orleans
Week 3 Green Bay
Week 4 Carolina
Week 5 @ Detroit
Week 6 Minnesota
Week 7 @ Tampa Bay
Week 8 BYE
Week 9 @ Philadelphia
Week 10 Detroit
Week 11 San Diego
Week 12 @ Oakland
Week 13 Kansas City
Week 14 @ Denver
Week 15 Seattle
Week 16 @ Green Bay
Week 17 @ Minnesota

This actually looks like a pretty soft schedule. Our non-divisional games will be against the NFC South and the AFC West with a Monday Night game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9.

The Bears will open the season with a killer three-week stretch at home against Atlanta, in the Superdome to play the New Orleans Saints then back home against the Green Bay  Packers. Actually, now that I’m looking at this maybe a three-week lockout is the ideal scenario…I wouldn’t mind skipping those games at all.

After that, things will ease up considerably with games against four teams with a combined 2010 record of 24-40 leading into the bye. The Bears get to make the London trip for the first time this year, to play Tampa Bay at Wembley for the second time in three years.

Along with Week 9, the Week 5 game against the…Lions (really?) will also be a Monday nighter. It will be the Lions’ first appearance under the bright lights since 2001.

Weeks 10-15 should be another doable stretch (opponents’ combined record: 44-52), before closing out against Green Bay and Minnesota on the road. Week 14 will feature Jay Cutler‘s return to what I can only imagine will be an appreciative and respectful Denver crowd.

Weeks 6 and 16 are Sunday night games.
