Chicago Bears Are Not Who You Think They Are: Don’t Crown Them Yet

I know they are 3-0. I know that at the end of the year it just matters how many numbers you have in the win column, not how you got them. I know Chicago fans are going to want to eat me alive. I just don’t think the Bears are who you think they are.

They barely beat the struggling Detroit Lions in their home opener. The Lions haven’t won on the road since 2007. They won because of a fluke call on a Calvin Johnson touchdown that got taken away. They almost lost to a backup quarterback who had not practiced with the first team that week. They were unable to score a touchdown from the 1 yard line in four tries against the 30th ranked defense.

So they beat the winless Lions and Cowboys and they squeaked a win out at home against a good Packers team. Cutler had the best game he will have all year to beat the Cowboys by a touchdown. I have never witnessed more reversed interception calls in Cutler’s favor against the Packers.

I am not trying to completely burn the Chicago Bears. Matt Forte is the real deal. Brian Urlacher is still a great player. I think Jay Cutler has a ton of potential. A Mike Martz offense is fun to watch. I just think they have had a lot of lucky bounces this year.

The scary thing is that the Bears have an easy schedule. I just hope they don’t weasel their way all the way to the Super Bowl again so they can get hammered by a real AFC team.
