Don’t be fooled Chicago.

Mike Martz was recently discussing where the offense was at in training camp.

He talked, actually gushed about Jay Cutler and the rest of the offense.

“[Cutler] has that Kurt Warner-awareness,” Martz said in reference to his Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Rams. “He has such a keen sense of where everybody’s at. He sees everything, can diagnose it without even thinking about it, which allows him to excel with what we do.”

I mean don’t get me wrong, I love my quarterback. I just don’t necessarily buy what Martz is saying. It’s great to make your quarterback feel confident, but it’s another to blatantly exaggerate his progress.

“He has always tried to do everything just the way we’ve asked him to do it. When things do break down, the really great ones have a sense of just finding a guy. He can do that. He’s been pretty remarkable so far. He’s everything that I had hoped that he would be, absolutely, Martz says”.

You’re right Martz, that’s what the great one’s do. I am not sure if you were watching last year, but Cutler did a great job finding guys. The problem was they usually weren’t on the Bears.

“His retention and everything is better than I thought it would be,” Martz said. “There’s nothing I would say that we have to go back and fix. His footwork took a little bit longer because he wasn’t used to it, but he’s got that down. Right now it’s just getting synched up with the receivers and going to play.”

Nothing? You feel that there is nothing to fix, or make better? Either you haven’t gone that far along or this team somehow did a 180 degree turn from last year. I’m not going with the latter.

Cutler and Martz both seem to be infatuated with one another. They are talking each other up like there is no tomorrow, or upcoming season. This is an easy approach to take when there is no pressure. Put on the pressure and it should be interesting to see how their feelings alter. Of course this is the Chicago Bears and the thing they are best at: making us believe everything is just fine.

Mike Martz even went as far to say that he “loves his two tackles.” I was a little uneasy at first and nearly threw up when I heard that. This Marz interview feels almost as if I was hearing Lovie’s words come out of Mike’s mouth.

To say that you “love your two tackles,” you completely throw out all credibility.

For one, Chris Williams has played a handful of games at his natural position, hardly ample time to be at complete ease there.

Secondly, if you are our offensive coordinator and you love Frank Omiyale, there is not much to be excited for this season. Frank Omiyale went from bad to glaring weakness this offseason. To say you love Frank Omiyale, you are clearly lying.

So what else are you lying about, Mike?
