You might think I’m crazy saying Plaxico Burress could fit well in Chicago.
Not at all.
The Bears don’t have a wide receiving corps that will lead them to the promised land of a title. Devin Aromashodu and Johnny Knox are not premier wideouts in the NFL. I’m sorry. They will never be.
Aromashodu has problems learning the plays. That’s why he didn’t really play much down the stretch. Knox and Hester sometimes end up in the same place. That should never happen.
Burress might be the answer.
He would be a veteran presence on this team that these young wideouts have never had. Earl Bennett is not the answer. Burress could teach them a thing or two.
He isn’t a distraction, other than his stupid arrest. He is liked in the locker room. Antonio Pierce has said on ESPN that Burress was liked by his teammates. He works hard and he would learn the playbook. He seems committed and changed.
I don’t understand how Jerry Angelo can pass up on a 6’5″ wide receiver who can still out run and out-jump most corners in the National Football League.
Burress would fit well in the Mike Martz system.
In New York, they ran him on deep routes. He was a smart route runner and he doesn’t run behind defenders on crossing routes—unlike the Bears’ current wide receiving troupe.
He catches balls. In his nine-year NFL career, Plax has over 7,500 receiving yards and 55 touchdowns. If those numbers don’t make the case then I don’t know what does.
Plain and simple: Plax belongs a Bear.
