Tucker comes to Chicago after serving as the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator from 2009-2012. He was also the team’s interim head coach when Jack Del Rio was fired, he went 2-3 in the team’s final games.
Trestman wasted no time in hiring the Bears offensive coordinator position with Aaron Kromer on Jan. 16. In Tucker, he filled his defensive coordinator position with a man that had garnered plenty of interest in both the NFL and college.
With Tucker in tow, the Bears coaching staff has started to take shape in the post-Lovie Smith era.The Bears hired former Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman from the CFL on Jan. 16 and fired former defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli shortly thereafter.
Trestman’s most recent NFL experience was a stint as the Miami Dolphins assistant head coach in 2004 before heading to NC State as an offensive coordinator for the 2005/2006 season.
Tucker had been interviewed for several head coaching positions including the Jacksonville Jaguars and Wisconsin Badgers of the college football ranks.
The Jaguars defense ranked 22nd in the league against the pass and 30th against the run with Tucker at the helm. The team went 2-14.
Tucker has also served as an assistant for the Cleveland Browns from 200-2008.
