Chicago Bears: Roy Williams Is Highly Overrated and Will Fail as a Chicago Bear

There is an awful lot of hype surrounding the new wide receiver acquisition in Roy Williams.
The Chicago Bears are a team on the verge of being a dominant force in the league, but are still just missing that final piece. The Bears let a lot of players go unsigned, but also managed to pick up a few more names like Marion Barber and Roy Williams.
Honestly, I think Roy Williams is not the missing piece and will be a major bust in Chicago.
The Bears have probably the most unpredictable quarterback in the league with Jay Cutler. While being notorious for racking up big yards every year by his power to bomb the ball down the field, the other result is plenty of turnovers.
As a starter, the least number of interceptions Cutler ended the season with was 11, and that was back in 2007. Since then, he’s reached throwing up to 26 interceptions in one season as he did in 2009. Anyone can tell you that if you want to reach the Super Bowl, throwing 20-plus will not get you there.
So with a rocky quarterback, how will Williams manage to find his way? He won’t.
Roy Williams is a one-year wonder, and only had one good season in 2006 with the Detroit Lions where he had 1,310 receiving yards, but still only seven touchdowns.
Since then, his numbers have fallen significantly and had a high of only 596 receiving yards in the past five seasons.
Johnny Knox is the No.1 receiver on that team, and Williams will not take that from him. Knox is a young and upcoming star who nearly doubled his reception yards last year. Also, Devin Hester will remain as the slot receiver and is still one of the fastest guys in the game.
To add insult to injury, Williams had a career-high last season in fumbles.
Williams has a lot to do if he wants to get back to how he played in ’06, but he isn’t getting any younger either. Williams will turn 30 this season and his numbers have and will reflect that.
Chicago fans can cheer all they want, but Roy Williams is not a good signing. He is overrated, a one-year wonder, and will be a bust in Chicago in 2011.
