Halas Hall has been busy this off season.
As General Manager, Jerry Angelo watched his team slide to a 9-7 record this season, missing the playoffs, he knew something had to be done.
Okay, a lot had to be done.
On offense he watched a mediocre passing game. And on defense he watched a once-dominant unit underperform.
It didn’t seem likely that Jerry Angelo would craft a productive off season though.
He never had the reputation of really pursuing the necessary free-agents. Instead, he had the philosophy that “free-agency begins at home”, by extending contracts of veteren players.
Likely, he would do nothing to bolster his old offensive line.
Likely, he would act oblivious to his un-inspired defense, and hope they come back better next year.
Likely, Angelo would stick with the modest QB already in place; Kyle Orton.
But not this year.
Fans got a glimpse of a new, fired-up Jerry Angelo at the beginning of the post-season.
“We need to get the quarterback position right,” he said.
Finally, after a couple of decades? (depending on how you feel about Jim McMahon) Really?
The pieces finally fell into place this year, and Angelo’s reputation as a GM has positively been changed.
