In yesterday’s article I talked about how the Bears‘ offense had been struggling in recent weeks.

I’m guessing someone on the team must have read the article because today the Bears looked invincible against the Tennessee Titans.

The Bears walked into Nashville looking not to repeat the same mistakes they made against Detroit and Carolina. They walked out of Nashville with a 51-20 victory, their second biggest victory of the season. It’s also the second time this year in which they won by 30 or more points.

The offense looked stale coming out of the gate. In fact, the Bears’ first touchdown came off of a blocked punt by cornerback Sherrick McManis which was returned to pay dirt by defensive end Corey Wootton. On their next drive, a penalty by J’Marcus Webb in the end zone gave the Titans a safety and cut the Bears lead to 7-2.

At that point the Bears decided to get their act together and they dominated the rest of the way. They would score three more times in the first quarter courtesy of Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall and Brian Urlacher.

The Bears took a 31-5 lead into the locker room at halftime. When the second half started, the Bears picked up right where they left off. 

The Monsters of the Midway would score another 20 points before all was said and done. Lovie Smith’s group is now 7-1 on the 2012 campaign. They also have first place in the NFC North all to themselves.

Twenty-eight of the Bears’ 51 points today came from the offense. Brandon Marshall caught three touchdown passes to go along with his 122 total receiving yards. Matt Forte rushed for over 100 yards for the second time this season. He was also the second leading receiver for his team with 45 yards.

Cutler completed 19-of-26 passes for 229 yards, three touchdowns, and he finished the game with a 138.1 passer rating. He was only sacked three times today, a big improvement from the last two weeks.

But the bigger story was the Bears defense. Aside from Brian Urlacher’s first quarter touchdown on an interception return, the Bears also sacked Matt Hasselbeck twice today. They also forced four fumbles, deflected nine passes and just about everyone recorded a tackle. The Bears have now returned seven interceptions for touchdowns this year, tied for third most in league history.

Another amazing stat is that the 28 points they scored in first quarter is a new franchise record. The Bears had their way with the Titans and removed any doubt about their abilities in the process.

Next up is that rough two game road trip we’ve been hearing about all season. First up is next Sunday night vs. Houston (7-1), and it concludes with the following Monday night in San Francisco (6-2). Both games will be nationally televised, which will put the Bears under an immense microscope.

This will be a major chance for the Bears to seize the moment and prove to the entire National Football League that they are for real.
