Chicago Bears: Why Charles Tillman Is the Undisputed Defensive MVP

Forget being the best defense in the NFL this season, if the Chicago Bears keep up these dominant performances, they will be with the ’85 Bears in the conversation for best defense of all time.
The Tennessee Titans were the Monsters of the Midway’s most recent victim, as the Bears forced five turnovers and essentially gave up only one score.
Charles Tillman was the standout of the game, forcing four fumbles with the Mike Tyson-like blows that have made him famous across the league.
All season it has been Tillman’s sidekick, Tim Jennings, who has received the Defensive Player of the Year hype—and for good reason, given his six interceptions. However, now Tillman is undoubtedly the front-runner.
Tillman’s seven forced fumbles is by far the most in the NFL. Many opponents would fear running into Brian Urlacher or Julius Peppers of all people on the Bears’ defense, but good luck keeping the pigskin when Tillman throws his fist.
The Bears’ defense has also been known for being the team’s best offense this season, and Tillman is leading the show with two interceptions for touchdowns.
It’s time for Tillman to receive the hype that he’s deserved for the past few seasons. Urlacher praised his teammate after shutting down Calvin Johnson a few weeks ago (via Chicago Sun-Times):
“Charles Tillman is the best corner in the game. That’s not a stretch. That’s not me being a good teammate. That’s what it is.”
No one will argue that point. In fact, he’s the best defender in the game right now. Granted, you can’t forget about J.J. Watt and his league-leading 10.5 sacks, but Tillman’s game-changing ability carries the most weight.
Message to the Bears’ upcoming opponents: hold on tight or else.
