It didn’t take long for quarterback Connor Shaw to find a home.

Field Yates of ESPN reported the Chicago Bears claimed Shaw on Friday after the New Orleans Saints put in a claim on the quarterback. Peter Schrager of Fox Sports reported that the Saints leaked they were putting in a claim on Shaw, and when the Bears became aware of it, they used their higher waiver priority to snag him.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reported that the Saints sent an email to every team as opposed to just the NFL personnel office. Nick Underhill of The Advocate reported the Seattle Seahawks also put a claim in on Shaw.

On Thursday afternoon, Shaw announced that he had been waived by the Cleveland Browns:

The 24-year-old appeared in just one game for the Browns back in 2014, where he completed 14 passes for 177 yards.

While Shaw’s release doesn’t reveal who the Browns will have as their starting quarterback next season, it does whittle down new head coach Hue Jackson’s options.

After the Browns experienced their seventh consecutive losing season behind veteran quarterback Josh McCown, Austin Davis and the troubled Johnny Manziel, Cleveland released Manziel and signed Robert Griffin III in March after he was cut by the Washington Redskins

With McCown, Davis, Griffin and Shaw on the roster, the Browns passed up on Carson Wentz by trading their No. 2 draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles. They then selected USC quarterback Cody Kessler in the third round of this year’s draft, to which Jackson told the media, “You have to trust me on this one,” via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Because of the sheer number of quarterbacks on the roster, Jackson told Cabot in May that it was “too soon” to name a starter.

There still hasn’t been an announcement of who will start under center in Cleveland in September, but Shaw became the first casualty of the quarterback competition on Thursday. Now, Cook will slot behind Jay Cutler and Brian Hoyer heading into training camp and try to make the roster.
