Perryman is likely to miss Week 9, per Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Gehlken, citing a source, also said Perryman’s hamstring injury “very well could require weeks of rest.”
Gehlken speculated Perryman will miss the Miami Dolphins game after the Tennessee showdown and won’t return until after San Diego’s Week 11 bye.
Perryman’s Injury the Latest Blow for Chargers LB’s
This is another blow for the Chargers at the inside linebacker position. Gehlken noted they are already without Manti Te’o (torn Achilles) and Nick Dzubnar (torn ACL) and lost rookie Jatavis Brown to a knee injury against Denver.
San Diego is left with rookie Joshua Perry, Korey Toomer and James Burgess. According to Gehlken, it signed Toomer off the Oakland Raiders practice squad in September and recently added Burgess from its own practice squad.
With so much attrition, the Chargers are a middling 24th in the league in points allowed per game (26.5) but at least get to face beatable offenses in Tennessee (17th in the league in points per game) and Miami (21st in the league in points per game) during Perryman’s potential absence.
Perryman entered the league as a second-round pick last year out of Miami (Florida) and notched 73 combined tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble as a rookie. He has 33 combined tackles, one sack and one interception in seven games this season.
