Devin Hester made history Monday Night. In a game that saw Brett Favre return briefly, Hester stole the show.

With 12 minutes left in the third quarter, Devin Hester received a punt and took off down the road of NFL lore. While we have all suspected that Devin Hester was the best punt returner in history, the Bears returner made it official. He ran 65 yards for his 14th punt return touchdown. That is a new record.

The game started with news that Brett Favre would return to the starting lineup after suffering a severely sprained shoulder three weeks ago. There were questions whether TCF Bank Stadium was the correct venue for the QB to make his return. Favre ended up getting pounded to the ground in the second quarter and had to leave the game with a head injury.

The slick hard surface seemed to give some players little worry. One player in particular was Devin Hester. On the game, Hester has two touchdowns. The second will be the one he remembers for a lifetime. That was the break-away punt return that puts his name firmly in the record books.

The Vikings may not win this one, but they would do well to keep the ball out of Hester’s hands. If they need to kick it out of bounds, they should do so. It’s better than a quick six points for the Bears.
