Donovan McNabb: Why the Veteran Quarterback Will Sign with the Chicago Bears

Donovan McNabb was released yesterday and the interesting thing to me is that he asked to be released.
That may not be surprising to some of you, but I thought it was because there are not too many teams that McNabb can go to and start.
Houston? Nope. Oakland? Too late for that. Carolina? Not unless Newton gets hurt. Philly? He’s already tried that. Washington? Then again, Philly doesn’t sound so bad.
So the only team that you can think of that would make sense for McNabb is Chicago. Jay Cutler may be out for the rest of the season and Caleb Hanie is their only option.
If Hanie has struggles like he did against the Raiders and loses, then it would be hard for Chicago not to take a look at McNabb.
There were some rumors a couple of years ago about maybe Philly trading McNabb to the Bears and, of course, that never happened.
McNabb was born in Chicago, so he won’t exactly be too much of a stranger in Chicago. The Bears defense has been playing great and the running game can keep this team in games; McNabb can step in and at least manage the game for the Bears and keep them from losing games.
Chicago might not sign McNabb because of the type of offense they run, and the fact that McNabb has basically been given away by two other teams and then cut from one.
McNabb might go down as the greatest quarterback in the history of the Eagles. So what would make the Eagles trade him to a division rival? He’s getting older and he has declined. Would signing McNabb make the Bears that much better? That we can not be sure of.
McNabb is a better option than Josh McCown, but I am not entirely sure that McNabb is worth it.
But it’s hard to believe that McNabb won’t be signed by the Bears because they have too many questions at the quarterback position without Cutler, and if McNabb can show that he’s got gas left in the tank with the Bears, then they can make the playoffs without any question.
