Tim Yotter of Scout noted the linebacker is still in concussion protocol and missed Thursday’s practice.

Kendricks continues to prove he’s well worth the second-round investment the Vikings made on him during last year’s draft. He racked up 92 combined tackles and four sacks as a rookie and has made further strides toward establishing himself as a defensive stalwart in 2016.

On the injury front, he’s been able to avoid any serious setbacks since arriving to the NFL. He did sit out two games last season because of a rib issue. He also missed time during the preseason leading up to the current campaign due to a hamstring problem.

If he’s forced back out of the starting lineup, Audie Cole figures to get the first opportunity to fill the void in the middle of the Minnesota defense. Rookie Kentrell Brothers would be the next man up if Cole struggles in the more high-profile role.

Kendricks has quietly become one of the best linebackers in the NFC. In turn, any type of long-term absence would be a major setback for the Vikings defense.
