Fantasy Football Pow Wow: Week 7 Weapons of the Week (WOWs)

Weapons of the Week are players we expect to have a better week than usual, not necessarily the elite players at each position….anyone can predict for Andre Johnson to have a big game.

Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears

Nick – Jay Cutler’s passing yards won’t be an issue this week against Washington as the Redskins have given up the second most passing yards per game in the NFL.  The Bears receivers have been terribly inconsistent thus far but so have the Redskins corners.  This game will probably be sloppy but Cutler’s numbers will be there in the end.

Buddy – The biggest problem with Cutler in Chicago is pass protection. The Bears have a terrible offensive line. Luckily for Cutler, the Bears play the Redskins this week. Not really a scary pass rush. The Redskins have given up double digit fantasy points to every opposing QB they have faced this year. Cutler will be no exception, look for 300 yards and two scores.

Peyton Hillis, RB, Cleveand Browns

Nick – Peyton Hillis makes a lot of sense to start this week because I don’t think the Browns really want to get Colt McCoy into a duel with Drew Brees.  The Browns will look to establish the run early in hopes of controlling the clock and the tempo of the game.  Plus, the Saints are about average at stopping the run (ranked 15th) so I consider this a favorable match up.

Buddy – Peyton Hillis has rushed for just 69 yards in the last two weeks combined. But that was against two tough run defenses. This week he gets the Saints. Eric Mangini will try to keep the ball out of Drew Brees’ hands as much as possible. And that means running the football. And stopping the run is not something the Saints are very good at.

Percy Harvin, WR, Minnesota Vikings

Nick – The Packers have been surprising weak on defense this year and although the Vikings haven’t been exactly spectacular on offense, it’s only a matter of time before they get rolling. The Packers defense simply won’t be able to keep up with Harvin so he should see a lot of targets and quick slants that will allow him to run in the open field.  I think he’ll get a TD this week.

Buddy – We all saw what Brett Favre did last year when he played the Packers.  I expect Favre to do the same thing this year. The Vikings have been getting Percy Harvin more involved in the offense every week. The Packers will look to take away Moss and Percy will put up big numbers.

Aaron Hernandez, TE, New England Patriots

Nick – The Chargers have allowed a TD to an opposing Tight End in three of their six games but have really only played four good TE’s (Marcedes Lewis didn’t score) so I do like this matchup.  I expect the Patriots to wear down the mistake-prone Chargers by spreading the ball around plenty so while I don’t expect a monster game from Hernandez, 5-6 catches for about 70 yards and a TD will be good for around 11 points or so, which is usually a top five TE performance for the week.

Buddy – I love starting tight ends going against the San Diego Chargers defense. I don’t know if they just don’t find it important but every year you will see the Chargers defense at the top of the list for fantasy points allowed to tight ends. Aaron Hernandez will see a lot of passes thrown his way, and I think he tops 100 yards.
