Fantasy Football: What to Do About Jay Cutler?

Jay Cutler stunk it up last night. It may have been the low point of his career.

He began the week publicly dissing to the Packers, threw his offensive line under the bus and had a passer rating that made JaMarcus Russell look like Aaron Rodgers.

What a difference a week makes. What should Jay Cutler owners be thinking?

Life in the NFL can turn on a dime. Just a week ago many, myself included, were singing the praises of Cutler. With Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery he had a pair of big, fast, athletic WRs. Matt Forte gave him a safety net in the passing game. Things were looking good.

Then Forte gets banged up, which could possibly sideline him for a few weeks, the line gets exposed by Clay Matthews and Cutler played like, well, Jay Cutler.

Sure, he has an arm that few quarterbacks possess, but that gets him into trouble. He thinks that he can fit it just about any space, but the ball often ends up in the hands of the opposition.

Instead of accepting his share of the blame, he insults his offensive line, even shoulder bumping J’Marcus Webb. That isn’t going to win you many fans in the locker room.

The Bears have issues on their line. That isn’t going away. While Cutler will have some brilliant games, you have to look out for the occasional stinker.

That puts him right where he has been the past few years. His inconsistency makes him a risk to play each and every week. Can he really be a QB1?

Sure he can, but it is a risk. He’s shown that he is better suited to be a QB2 and you just have to cross your fingers if and when you trot him out there.
