The Chicago Bears beefed up their defensive line Tuesday as they agreed to terms on a one-year contract with former Washington Redskins second-round pick Jarvis Jenkins.

Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune first reported the signing:

According to Biggs, the contract is for the minimum salary benefit, which will help reduce the cap hit taken on by the Bears:

The 26-year-old Jenkins is coming off a season that saw him start 14 games and register 28 tackles as a space-eating defensive end in Washington’s defense.

Based on recent tweets, the former Clemson standout is looking to re-energize his career in Chicago:

The 300-pounder will play under new Bears head coach and defensive guru John Fox, so he figures to be given every opportunity to succeed.

Chicago struggled mightily on defense last season, and while Jenkins is far from a big-name acquisition, he undoubtedly adds much needed depth and versatility along the defensive line.

Signing Jenkins isn’t a move that will make major headlines in the midst of a wild offseason, but it could ultimately prove to be an astute addition once the 2015 regular season commences.
