Jason Campbell will receive a rare opportunity to revitalize his NFL career when the veteran starts at quarterback for the Chicago Bears on Monday night versus the San Francisco 49ers.
Starting games isn’t something new for Campbell, who started many games for the Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins over the last six seasons.
Campbell decided to sign with the Bears in the offseason and step into the role of backup quarterback, but if he plays well against the 49ers, and in any other games he starts this season, there could be several teams interested in signing him following the Super Bowl.
There are a number of teams that could use an upgrade at the quarterback position. The Arizona Cardinals, for example, are a quality quarterback away from being a legitimate playoff contender.
To make himself a coveted player in free agency, Campbell not only has to play well and not turn the ball over, he needs to win games. Being successful on a division-leading team facing high expectations would also strengthen his resume for free agency.
Campbell is fortunate to be starting for one of the league’s elite teams, one that has plenty of offensive weapons and a great defense.
A lot of quarterbacks would love to have a top-tier wide receiver like Brandon Marshall and a star running back such as Matt Forte.
Campbell has been given a great opportunity to prove he should be a starting quarterback full-time next season, and this is good news for the Bears.
You want a motivated quarterback with something to prove leading your team, and Campbell has everything to prove.
Monday night’s game is the beginning of the next chapter in Campbell’s career.
