Jay Cutler, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett’s Post-Week 15 Fantasy Reaction

Jay Cutler did not look like the Chicago Bears‘ franchise quarterback in Monday’s 31-15 loss the New Orleans Saints.

Anyone hoping for Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery or tight end Martellus Bennett to produce like No. 1-caliber fantasy options at their respective positions was disappointed in Week 15—well, save for Jeffery’s garbage-time touchdown with just 30 seconds remaining.

That score may have swung a number of fantasy games in an otherwise unsavory outing for Chicago’s offense.

ESPN Monday Night alluded to just how putrid Chicago was through 45 minutes of action at Soldier Field:

The absence of Cutler’s favorite target, Brandon Marshall, had to have an impact on the shaky signal-caller’s woeful overall numbers.

Then again, New Orleans ranked 30th versus the pass and 29th against the run entering Week 15’s contest. Cutler doesn’t really have an excuse for how poorly he fared, especially with an all-purpose back like Matt Forte to lean on as a complement.

Only when the Saints had broken open the game did Cutler even start to produce. It’s as though Cutler doesn’t care. He will try to use his powerful arm to fit the ball into any window, and it results in frequent turnovers, not to mention questions as to whether he was worth a lucrative offseason contract.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports explains just how mistake-prone Cutler has been:

Now that Marshall is out, opponents can have an easier time shading coverage to Jeffery’s side of the field. Until he proves capable of being a go-to guy, don’t expect Jeffery to produce like a fantasy WR1 as he has in the past.

Bennett is among the better pass-catching tight ends in the game. Unless thinner fantasy leagues have superior alternatives, he’s still worth deploying on a weekly basis.
