Jay Cutler, Alshon Jeffery’s Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 2

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler took control of a gimpy roster, tossed four touchdowns and engineered a 28-20 come-from-behind victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.
Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is usually a big part of any sterling Cutler performance, but the third-year pro notched just three receptions for 47 yards on Sunday night. Fellow wideout Brandon Marshall got the lion’s share of receptions (five) and pulled in three of Cutler’s four touchdown passes.
Cutler’s ability to get the ball in the hands of his best players despite the fact that both Jeffery and Marshall came into the game with injuries and had a 75 percent chance of missing the contest, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via Twitter), speaks to his growing rapport with his skill players and comfort in the offense.
It’s a great night for fantasy owners brave enough to start Cutler, but don’t expect him to put up performances like these every Sunday if either of his star wideouts spends time on the inactive list. He’s not likely to break through to the upper echelon of fantasy QBs—he finished the game with just 176 yards passing—but he could be a fine spot starter against weaker defenses.
Fantasy owners should monitor the health of Jeffery in the coming weeks. Eight catches through two games is disappointing, but Jeffery got off to a slow start in 2013 (six catches after two weeks). As long as his hamstring heals properly, he should be good to start going forward.

Marshall got to have most of the fun against the 49ers, but it stands to reason that Jeffery will have his own big performances, with Cutler enjoying the luxury of riding the hot pair of hands each week.
