Bears Blitz

The current wide receivers have been criticized by many, and Bear fans seem to be divided.

Some like the youthfulness of the receivers and believe Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, and Johnny Knox are the future of the Bears, a team historically known as having poor wide-outs.

Others believe the total opposite.

Some fans would love the Bears to get a proven receiver to help to aide Cutler in becoming the franchise QB they hoped him to be when they traded for him.

They believe if Cutler has a great receiver to throw to then the offense will see a great leap in production and effectiveness.

The receiving core is a very young bunch, and it’s true that most of them aren’t matured yet to dominate at the NFL level, but are there is hope to believe this group of guys can produce next season.

While no receiver accrued over 1,000 yards, Earl Bennett, only in his second season, had 717 receiving yards but only two touchdown catches. 

Not spectacular but decent for a second-year man. 

The question is, do the Bears need a proven receiver? 

Because of all the other problems, I am going to have to say no. 

Don’t get me wrong I’d love to see the Bears get a good receiver that will work in Martz’s new offense, but I am fairly confident in the young ones we have now.

I still believe the offensive line is the worst aspect of the offense.

Fixing that will open the running game which, in turn, will open the passing game. 

Instead of a receiver, I’d rather see them bring in an offensive linemen who can actually block for more than two seconds.

Did you see how many times Cutler was hit or had to scramble out after just dropping back in the pocket?

It was tough to watch. 

So no, the Bears don’t need a proven receiver, but they do need an offensive line that can block. 

I can see where Cutler’s confidence in his receivers is coming from, but I doubt he has any in his offensive line.
