Jay Cutler: Don’t Give Up On Him Yet, O Ye Of Little Faith

After a disastrous first half, in which Jay Cutler threw three interceptions, the QB was able to calmly lead a Bears’ comeback in an impressive second half. In the end, the Bears fell short and Cutler threw another garbage time interception. But he showed big play potential as well, making throws I’ve never seen a Bears QB make.
I think it is far too soon. It is his first game in a new system, and many of the interceptions were great plays by Green Bay or poor plays by Bears wide receivers.
That being said, his performance did conjure up memories of Rex Grossman. But we need to give Cutler some time. He did look impressive on a few plays. And if the defense makes a stop at the end, we’d be talking about how it was a tale of two halves, and Cutler is the next great thing.
I think that Cutler is kind of like Favre; he is going to throw interceptions, and he’s going to have some games where he looks like Rex Grossman. But I think it will be the exception, not the rule.
The real concern for me is Urlacher’s injury. Before he went out, our defense clearly looked back to its dominant ways.
I think we are still going to make the playoffs this year and even win one game in them.
Cutler has simply showed that he is not perfect. But let’s give him a chance before we throw him to the wolves.
