Jay Cutler Injury: Bears QB Suffers Concussion After Nine Sacks Against Giants

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a concussion during the first half of their game against the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football. As a result, he didn’t return back for the second half.

It’s fair to assume that the Bears didn’t want to risk Cutler taking more blows, especially after endeavoring nine sacks in the first half alone.

The Bears reportedly made the announcement during halftime that Cutler would not return, and I believe it was a wise decision.

Todd Collins, a 16-year veteran, took over and performed at a pathetic level. Despite not taking a sack, he completed only four passes and posted a passer rating of 8.1.

Of course, that wasn’t much worse than Cutler. Even though he did complete 8-of-11 passes, they only went for 42 yards. Moreover, he threw an interception and fumbled the ball three times, one of which was lost.

Cutler was constantly being harassed by the Giants defense, and after being sacked for the ninth time right before the half, he could barely get himself up. It just seemed as if he had lost all of his energy.

While the offensive line did played horrendously, a fair share of the blame should be placed upon Cutler’s inability get the ball out of his hands quickly.

It’s still yet to be seen how long this injury will keep him out. Do note, though, that the Pro Bowl quarterback has never missed a game in his five-year career.

Hopefully, this is nothing too serious and he can get back onto the field as soon as possible.
