Jay Cutler: Realistic Fantasy Expectations for Chicago Bears QB

Fantasy owners for Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler had to weather Week 11 without the signal-caller, and it’s currently uncertain if he’ll be lining up under center this coming Sunday.

Cutler suffered a concussion in Week 10’s Sunday Night Football contest against the Houston Texans, and was sidelined during Monday night’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

According to the latest report by ESPN Chicago’s Sarah Spain, Cutler hasn’t passed all the required tests and has yet to prove to the team and doctors that he is fit to return to the gridiron.

For that reason, it’s absolutely critical that you monitor Cutler’s status up to the kickoff of the Bears’ Week 12 game against the Minnesota Vikings, which will take place at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Make sure you have a backup plan in place, as concussions are one of the iffiest injuries in the NFL. If you don’t have one yet, we’re here to help you out.

One strong option would be Chicago’s own second-stringer, Jason Campbell.

The former Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders starter has performed admirably since coming in against Houston and has completed 26-of-42 pass attempts for 201 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions against a feisty 49ers defense.

Campbell will face a much softer secondary when the Vikings come to town—a unit that has allowed 17 touchdowns via the air and concedes an average of 229 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks.

If you decide against Campbell, 49ers backup Colin Kaepernick should be getting his second start against the atrocious New Orleans Saints defense and could put up huge numbers via the air and on the ground. He did well against the Bears this past week and should continue to excel if he remains the starter.

Seattle’s Russell Wilson (vs. Miami) and Tennessee’s Jake Locker (against Jacksonville) are two other solid options that should be available in the waiver pool in many fantasy leagues.

Of course, if Cutler is healthy and passes his tests, roll with the Bears starter, but be prepared to make the switch and monitor this situation closely up until game time.
