The Chicago Bears received some worrying news in the midst of their hard-fought Week 2 battle against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Defensive tackle Jeremiah Ratliff reportedly suffered a concussion and was forced to miss the rest of the game.

The Bears’ official Twitter account had the news:

Ratliff exited the game with two solo tackles to his credit, one of which stopped the opposition for a loss.

The 33-year-old pile-mover is in his 10th year in the league and his second with the Chicago Bears. He was a durable player for several seasons with the Dallas Cowboys but appeared in a total of just 11 games from 2012-2013.

The four-time Pro Bowler has lost some of the explosiveness off the line of scrimmage that made him a pass-rushing threat in his prime, but the veteran is an expert on the mayhem that takes place in the NFL trenches.

According to NBC Chicago’s James NeveauRatliff wreaked havoc for the Bears in Week 1:

The Bears will hope that he can recover from his concussion quickly and get back onto the field. With the amount of mileage Ratliff already has on his body, nagging injuries could greatly reduce his effectiveness and ability to contribute to the team’s defense going forward.
