Chicago Bears offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod left with a concussion in the team’s Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks and will not play in Week 4, per Kevin Fishbain of ChicagoFootball.com.

How Bushrod’s Absence Impacts Bears

Not much went right for the Bears on in Week 3, but the offensive line was holding its own against a strong Seattle defensive front until Bushrod went out. John Mullin of CSN Chicago called the injury “a crisis situation” for the offensive line that was “doing reasonably well.”

This is Bushrod’s ninth year in the league (the third with the Bears), and he has two Pro Bowls under his belt.

Bushrod’s ability to carve lanes up front was one reason Football Outsiders ranked the Bears as the ninth-best run-blocking offensive line in the first two weeks of the season. Running back Matt Forte will not see as many holes to exploit without Bushrod in the lineup.

Mullin noted Charles Leno came in at left tackle in Bushrod’s place. Leno is a former seventh-round draft pick (2014) who only started one game in his rookie campaign and is not the proven force the two-time Pro Bowler has been for Chicago.

A disastrous start to the 2015 season for the Bears could get even worse if Bushrod cannot return to the field in the near future.
