Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Kevin White has been activated off the physically unable to perform list, opening his 21-day practice window before the team decides to put him in games or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

The Bears announced the addition of White, the seventh overall pick in last spring’s draft, on Twitter as part of their official injury report heading into Thursday’s game against the Green Bay Packers

White’s tenure with the Bears got off to a horrible start. The former West Virginia star suffered a shin injury early in training camp that eventually required surgery at the end of August. He was placed on the PUP list on Aug. 30, ensuring he would sit out for the regular season’s first six weeks.

The Bears ultimately took the maximum allotted time with White by keeping him out for an additional five weeks before activating him on Tuesday.

White has been conservative about his recovery from surgery, telling reporters at the end of October that he wasn’t particularly close to being ready for games, per Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune

“I’ve got a ways to go,” White said. “I’ve got a ways to go. I’m not doing a lot (right now). I did some jogging last week. This week a little bit more. So it’s just progressing each week.”

Bears head coach John Fox told 670 The Score in Chicago on Tuesday that the team’s record would not dictate when White returns.

Chicago enters Week 12 with a 4-6 record, two games behind the Atlanta Falcons for the final wild-card spot in the NFC. While it doesn’t sound like White will be able to do much, if anything, in games this season, having him on the practice field and getting him used to the speed of the game will be invaluable for 2016.
