Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long suffered a serious ankle injury during the team’s Week 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after his leg was rolled up on. Long was carted off with an air cast on.

The Bears have placed him on injured reserve, and the injury will end his season.

Long Out for Season

The Bears announced they placed Long on injured reserve

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Monday that an MRI revealed Long will miss the season.

Latest on Severity of Long’s Injury

Sunday, Nov. 13

Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that head coach John Fox did not update Long’s status. Jahns added that the lineman’s ankle was “pretty swollen” and “black and blue.”

Long Once Again Dealing with Injury in 2016

The 20th overall pick of the 2013 draft, Long had missed just one game over his first three NFL seasons. But 2016 has already seen him miss time after suffering an arm injury in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers.

It’s an inopportune time for Long to be experiencing these issues, as the Bears recently picked up his option for the 2017 season back in April. With free agency looming, a sudden inability to stay healthy could work against him when it comes time to negotiating a new contract.

Despite his missed time, though, Long has still succeeded in his return to the right guard position. After spending the first two years of his career at right guard, Long was slotted at right tackle last season before the team signed Bobby Massie prior to the 2016 season.

With Long sidelined once again, look for Eric Kush to step up at right guard.
